A coin operated turnstile is a mechanical device that is commonly used to control access to a restricted area, such as a subway station, stadium, public toilet or amusement park.
Here is how coin operated turnstile works:
A person approaches the turnstile and inserts a coin into a slot or a device that can read the coin.
Once the coin is accepted, the turnstile unlocks and allows the person to pass through the gate or barrier.
As the person passes through, the turnstile rotates and registers the passage.
After the person has passed through, the turnstile locks again, preventing others from entering without paying.
If the person tries to pass through without paying, the turnstile will not unlock, and an alarm or indicator may sound to alert security personnel.
